Dharamshala is located in the upper region of Kangra valley and is famous for the yearly teachings imparted by the great holiness Dalai Lama. Dharamshala is very close to Tibet and is Headquarters of the Tibetan Government in exile. The town of Dharamshala is divided into three parts: Upper Dharamshala and McLeodGanj, the middle Kotwali Bazar and the lower Kacheri Area. Dharamshala is a very popular destination for tourists all around the world, especially the ones who seek the teachings of The Holy Dalai Lama.

Important places to visit in Dharamshala:

Naam Art Gallery - It is an art gallery which shows permanent exhibition of works by Elsbeth Buschmann, and watercolors, acrylics and oil paintings by Alfred H. Hallet. It is located on Chamunda Road, Sidhbari.

Tsuglagkhang Complex - This is a temple and is the main monastery of His Holiness, Dalai Lama. It consists of a very beautifully decorated Meditation room. This temple is full of beautiful statues, thangkas. It also contains the famous Kalachakra temple which has beautiful murals. This Temple is located just in front of the Dalai Lama’s residence.

Tibetan Museum: - It is a small museum which narrates the history of Tibet, its origin and its people.

Tibetan Library -: It is located near the Tibetan Exile Government and is full of documents and scriptures related to Tibetan history.

Bhagsunag Fall -: It is a collection of many waterfalls, an ancient temple, and a fresh water spring.

Dharamkot -: This place is located 14 kilometers from Dharamshala and is the perfect place for picnic . It is surrounded by Himalayas and has a spectacular view of the surrounding valleys and scenic beauty.

Best time to visit Dharamshala -: The best time to visit Dharamshala is between July to August for indoor activities, if you wish to devote your time to the holy teachings and spend some alone time in shrines. December to February is the perfect time for enjoying the chilly snow. September to November is ideal for sightseeing, temple visits etc. march to June is good for adventure sports.

How to reach Dharamshala -: By Airport, Gaggal Airport in Kangra, which is at a distance of 10 kilometers from the main Dharamshala city? This airport usually supports and caters to almost all major flights. By road, you can take a Taxi and Bus if you wish to reach Dharamshala by road. Bus services are available from Chandigarh, Shimla and Delhi. By train, the nearest train station is at Pathankot, which is connected to Delhi and Delhi is well connected to all major cities of India.
